Kauai is the world's most complete natural spa, enjoying year-round radiant sunshine tempered by gentle tradewinds and fragrant blessings of rain.

The time-tested practices of Ayurveda (science of life) are used to restore the balance, harmony and connection with oneself. We will discuss prana and the three doshas known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. We offer samvahana, a synchronized oil massage/steam bath and shirodhara - a meditative warm oil therapy.

Indulge in these traditional treatments as well as receive the benefits of daily lomi lomi.

Enjoy Watsu, a water and movement massage that promotes relaxation.

The ancient Hawaiians practiced the benefits of 'alaea salt scrubs and natural red mud body masks as part of their healing renewal rituals.

Our licensed therapists are trained in a variety of massage techniques including Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Pohaku Hot Stone methods.

Samvahana / Abhyanga

Samvahana is a dynamic synchronized massage using warm medicated sesame oil. It is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating experience. This massage will be taught as a retreat activity allowing participants to be involved in the therapeutic process of giving and receiving healing touch.

For centuries, Ayurvedic healers have used potent herbal oils in conjunction with massage. Abhyanga is a gentle but firm full body self-massage using rhythmic strokes on the skin, muscles and joints to promote circulation and detoxify the bodily tissues and improve skin quality and tone.

Ayurveda is a science created to provide beneficial support for the body, mind and spirit.

Shirodhara

In a shirodhara treatment an herbal oil decoction is poured continuously on the forehead or the third eye acing as a catalyst for enlightenment.

Shirodhara has positive effects on the cerebral system, helping to relax the nervous system while easing fatigue, creating an overall sense of calmness and renewal.

Hawaiian Red Clay Mask

One of Hawaii's unique attributes is its startlingly red dirt. The rich volcanic red clay has been used for centuries as a full body and facial mud mask. Iron oxide, with naturally occurring dolomite, silica and other mineral oxides, create a moisturizing and cleansing clay that promotes glowing skin while drawing toxins from overworked muscles.

A rich red clay mud found on the west side of Kauai is applied by hand all over the body. Guests luxuriate on the white sand beach as the clay dries, detoxifying the body's tissues and organs then rinse off in the azure ocean.

'Alaea Salt Scrub and Steam

In ancient Hawaii, the Kahuna lapa'au, healer and kahu, high priest, would use 'alaea sea salt to cleanse and bless land, canoes, and homes, representing both the sea and the earth. The salt is gathered from the reef and mixed with red clay, then baked by the hot Hawaiian sun.

Auntie Angeline's have been providing sumptuous body treatments for generations. In a cedar octagonal steam room, amidst a garden of tropical fruits, guests will be treated to 'Alaea Sea Salt Scrubs and a detoxifying steam bath. These body treatmentswill leave you invigorated and revitalized, body and soul.

Lomi Lomi / Massage

Lomi Lomi, in Hawaiian, means, "to break up ". On the physical level, lomi lomi assists blood and lymph flow and stimulates the elimination of wastes and toxins. Because people's memories, beliefs and self-limiting conceptions are stored in all the cells of our body, then lomi lomi, as a therapeutic practice, facilitates healing of the entire self. Working gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes totally nurtures the body enabling the recipient to relax, surrender and just be.

We will be providing daily lomi lomi in beautiful natural settings by trained massage practitioners. Some techniques offered are: gentle, full-body Swedish, sports massage, and Pohaku Hot Stone massage, which combines the application of heated river stones with a thorough full-body massage.

Watsu

Watsu, a water and movement massage, is performed in chest-high water at body temperature. Watsu borrows from Zen shiatsu, stimulating points along the meridians of the body during the massage releasing blockages in the energy pathways of the body. Watsu is used for pain reduction, increased range of motion, increased circulation, psychological problems, relaxation and reduction of stress. Some of our massage practices are tutorial in essence. Watsu will be taught in clean, calm ocean waters with guests participating and learning the various techniques on one another.
